Advanced Searching in Google

To begin:
  • Go to Google
  • Click "Advanced Search"
  • Try to make a long list of words to type into the search box to make your search more focused.
    • Use quotation marks around phrases-for example, "animal rights"
  • Limit your domain
    • At the bottom of the search page, there is a box that says "Search within a site or domain:"
    • Choose these domains for more credible results:
      • .edu (educational institutions and universities)
      • .gov (U.S. government sponsored page)
      • .org (A non-commercial organization)
    • Try to avoid using .com and .net!
    • Choose only one domain at a time when limiting by domain. Do not do all three at once, or you will not get as many results.
